3 seniors to leave their legacy

Tuesday night's battle with UNLV will mark the last regular-season home game in the careers of J.R. Giddens, Jamaal Smith and Darren Prentice.

Here is a breakdown of the seniors' final seasons:

J.R. Giddens

Giddens has been outstanding this season, averaging 15.6 points, 8.4 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. He has been a force on the defense end, leading the team with 42 steals and 37 blocks this season. On Feb. 9 against Wyoming, Giddens scored a career-high 36 points while pulling down 11 rebounds.

Head coach Steve Alford on Giddens: "J.R. is, I think, hands-down the best player in our league. Just look at his numbers. He's just done everything. He's 6-5, and he's leading the league in rebounding."

Smith has averaged 9.3 points and 2.3 rebounds per contest. He has brought the ball up the court in pressure situations and at times guarded the opposing team's best ball handler. On Jan. 5 at Wyoming, Smith scored a team-high 24 points while grabbing five boards.

Alford on Smith: "Jamaal has given us some incredible energy. He's had very good numbers this year. He's been a catalyst for us. He's turned into a pretty good leader as well, which we really appreciate."

Darren Prentice

Prentice has averaged 7.4 points per game and dished out 65 assists in his final season. He was solid defensively - recording 24 steals - and playing well in spot starts. Against San Diego on Dec. 8, Prentice led the team with 19 points and added four rebounds.

Alford on Prentice: "Darren's done a very nice job - somebody that has made some big shots for us during the course of the season. He's been somebody that's been very good to coach."
