Softball

UNM used solid pitching and defense to sweep Oklahoma State at home this weekend.

The Lobos improved to 9-5 on the season and have won five games in a row.

UNM won Friday's season-opener 5-4 in dramatic fashion, as Sara Loeffelholz hit a walk-off double in the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie. The Lobos then won Saturday's game 3-2 after scoring all of their runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Kelly Ninemire pitched seven innings, giving up two runs on three hits.

The Lobos won Sunday's series finale 7-4. Gabriella Parra went 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Madelyn Machac gave up two runs on five hits in six innings.

A lack of depth hurt the men's and women's teams this weekend at the Mountain West Conference Championships, but the Lobos still had some outstanding individual performances.

Both teams finished sixth overall but won two individual conference championships, set three school records and earned eight all-conference medals.

Junior Tiyana Peters won the MWC high jump title for the third year in a row on Saturday at Air Force. Peters won the event with a jump of 5-7.

On Thursday, junior Sandy Fortner won the women's pentathlon with a school record score of 4,005 points and will likely become the first UNM woman to qualify for the NCAA Championships in the event.

Deanna Young earned a third-place finish and set a school record in the women's triple jump on Saturday with a mark of 42-7. Alesha Walker broke another school record Friday when she cleared 20.75 in the long jump.

Swimming and Diving

The Lobos finished seventh for the third year in a row at the Mountain West Conference Championships.

Ashley Grisdale finished seventh in the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.47. UNM's freestyle relay team placed sixth at 3:29.31

Carrie Quinn placed ninth on the platform diving board, recording a score of 205.35

Baseball

It took 11 innings, but Texas State ended the UNM baseball team's

perfect start, knocking off the Lobos 8-7 on Sunday.

UNM took the first two of a three-game series and are 7-1 overall. Texas State is 4-3 after the series with the Lobos.

With Sunday's score knotted at seven, Texas State first baseman Paul Goldschmidt homered to left field to put the first blemish on UNM's record.

The Lobos routed the Bobcats 11-1 in Friday's series-opener, recording 16 hits. In Saturday's game, UNM pounded a season-high 19 hits and just squeaked by Texas State, 11-10.
