Cleaning and babysitting not responsibility of police

Editor,

I always get a kick out of what crazy leftists say, but Terry Riley's letter published in the Daily Lobo on Friday arguing that Stop the War Machine should not have to pay the fine by blaming the police really made my day.

He seems to be upset that the police didn't get involved during the event to stop any of the destructive behavior.

The reason why the police didn't step in is because he and all protesters would say that the authorities curtailed their right to protest, a common excuse for out-of-control people. Also, what really bugged me was how Riley then went on to bash the police and accuse them of not doing their job and even ignoring victims of serious crimes.

Maybe if the police didn't have to waste resources babysitting and cleaning up after irresponsible protesters, our country would not be in grave danger.
