There should be a penalty for violating flag protocol

Editor,

I was surprised to read from the U.S. flag code that there is nothing law enforcement can do if the flag code is broken. I believe the Supreme Court should authorize a federal fine or penalty for anyone who violates the flag code in order to preserve and respect the sovereignty and dignity of the American flag.

I believe justice should be a two-way process. If Peter Lynch is going to be punished for destroying public property, then I say those people who consciously flew the Mexican flag by itself on U.S. soil must also be held legally responsible for their actions.

Otherwise, if they are so passionate about flying their native flag in direct violation of the U.S. flag code, then they should return to their country of origin and fly it there. The American flag deserves the utmost respect.
