Editor,
I've known Kevin Boyar for two years. He collects guns like thousands of people - including me - across America do.
He was stupid and brought a gun to school and, therefore, should be punished according to the law.
What is unacceptable, and there is plenty that is unacceptable, is that now not only does he and his family have to pay in time and money for his mistake but also become the target of the fanaticism of people here.
Just to get people's attention, this whole incident has been blown out of proportion and a name has been slandered.
The long and short of this incident is that a kid who wasn't thinking brought a gun to school. That's it. He did not even keep it there. The police found no weapons on campus; they were at home, and his parents knew about them.

Another folly of this "investigative reporting" is that his personal property and life were disturbed because of someone who it seems was settling a vendetta.
I say this because the report was that someone had seen him bring a gun onto campus, but there was no gun when the police searched the same day.
This means that in order for the witness to have reported the crime as soon as it was seen, Boyar would have had to found out about it, taken the gun out of his room, taken it back to his parents house and returned, while managing to forget about all the other incriminating evidence in his room.
It all seems a little far-fetched to me.
And one last note: Putting a lock box in a freezer after someone has stolen your food isn't crazy but incredibly intelligent.
