Staff Report
UNM javelin star Katie Coronado placed sixth at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Eugene, Ore.
After capturing the silver medal in the NCAA Championships, Coronado came into the Olympic trials with a lot of momentum.
But after advancing to the finals, Coronado was unable to secure a roster spot on the U.S. Olympic team.
Coronado joins former distance runner Matt Gonzales as the only two Lobos to finish in the top six at the Olympic Trials, with Gonzales finishing sixth in 2004 in the 5,000-meter finals.
Coronado did, however, finish third among collegiate competitors, throwing a mark of 174-1.

The only other Lobo present at the Olympic Trials, Alesha Walker, came in 22nd place in the women's long jump qualifying round.
Both Coronado and Walker plan to return to UNM for the 2008-09 season.
