Daily Lobo Spotlight

Carmela Carrasco / Junior / Biology

Daily Lobo: What made you decide to major in biology?

Carmela Carrasco: Well, I want to go to med school, so it gives you the most requirements, and I love biology.

DL: What do you love most about biology?

CC: I just think it's really cool to know how the world works and understand the way things happen the way they do.

DL: What have you been doing this summer?

CC: I actually work in a lab on campus, and I spent the first half of my summer doing field work in Australia. And then I came back here, and so now I'm here working on campus in the labs.

DL: How was Australia?

CC: It was amazing. It was beautiful. It's so fun.

DL: What about their accents?

CC: Their accent is hilarious, and I really can't reproduce it, but they have the greatest slang words ever.

DL: Was it hard to understand them?

CC: It's not. Australia's great. The people are just super friendly, and they're really some of the most open, friendly, hospitable people you'll meet. I loved it.

DL: Did you get to do anything you can only do in Australia?

CC: I went to the rainforest, which was really cool, and we went kayaking, which was very scary, but it was pretty neat.

DL: Are you looking forward to the new year?

CC: Yeah. I've got one year left, so it's kind of bittersweet. It's almost over, but there's still two semesters left. I'm excited, though. It's going to be fun.
