I believe I can shed some light on Michael Westervelt's article on Thursday about "Advisement blues" in University College. The investigation Westervelt refers to is the one undertaken one year ago when President David Schmidly and the UNM Board of Regents asked for a review of University College as part of the president's first-year goals. The final report was published online in February 2008 at unm.edu/~acadaffr/provostreports.html. It documents the successes of University College in the past 10 years - including those of its advisement center - and makes recommendations for future improvements. I encourage anyone interested in the topic to read it.
