Cops: books stolen from humanities bookcase

UNMPD responded to a call from a department administrator who reported that an unknown person forced open a cabinet in the Humanities Building and stole a professor’s books Aug. 18. The professor will be contacted and directed to forward an inventory of the books to UNMPD. There were no witnesses to the incident, according to the police report.

Computers reported stolen from Zimmerman

A Zimmerman Library staff member reported to UNMPD Aug. 22 that two computers were missing from the basement level of the library. There were no witnesses to the incident. The officer on the case was given the UNM numbers on the computers, but the serial numbers are pending and the units were entered into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) system, according to the police report.

Car parked overnight stolen, report says

A man parked his car in M Lot on campus on Aug. 22 and reported it stolen to UNMPD the next day. He had not given anyone permission to use his car, which was entered into the NCIC as stolen, the police report stated. Police attempted to locate the vehicle via broadcast and passed the information on to APD and BCSO.

UNMPD: Mesa Vista Hall window broken

UNMPD responded to a call from an unknown passerby who noticed a window in Mesa Vista Hall was broken Aug. 22. According to a police report, housekeeping staff reported they had just arrived and noticed the window, at which point they also noticed an unknown employee on the scene, who left before they could ask what had happened. The window was apparently broken from the outside, and according to the police report, the suspect appeared to have been scared off but may possibly return at a later date. With this in mind, police advised all units to keep extra patrol in this area.

Report: disruptive man at UNMH arrested

UNM pharmacy employees called UNMPD to remove a man from the pharmacy Aug. 23. UNMH security reported to the officer that the man was yelling and being disruptive, so they took him outside and told him to leave UNM property, at which point the man refused to leave, according to a police report. Instead, he moved on to the office of UNMH financial aid and three officers then escorted him outside where they arrested and handcuffed him. The man was incarcerated and no further action is to be taken, according to the report.

UNMPD respond to suspected break-in

An officer met with a man at UNMPD who reported damage to the door handles on his car Aug. 23. According to a police report, the officer observed that the driver’s side door had pry marks, and it appeared as if someone had tried to remove the door handles to gain entry to the car. There were no suspects or witnesses when it was reported.

Police: man followed, assaulted woman

A woman told UNMPD that she had just left the Frontier Restaurant when an unidentified man asked her for money Aug. 23. According to the police report, she told the man she didn’t have any money for him and walked onto campus, at which point she noticed the man following her. He continued to follow her until she was close to Mitchell Hall, where he grabbed her arm, spun her around and put his hands on both of her shoulders. The woman said she punched him and was able to escape to her dorm. Officers checked the area but found nobody who matched the woman’s description of the man, according to the report.
