Tony Snell recorded his highest point total in a Mountain West Conference game Wednesday night, leading the No. 12 New Mexico men past Nevada 75-62 for the Lobos’ sixth straight victory.
Snell, a junior guard, scored 25 points against the Wolfpack (12-17, 3-12 MWC), including the last 10 UNM points of the first half. He made 8 of his 11 field goal attempts, including three 3-pointers, and finished the game three points shy of a career best.
UNM’s dual post threat of Alex Kirk and Cameron Bairstow posted double-doubles. Bairstow, a junior forward, earned his first career double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore center Kirk got his eighth with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior guard Kendall Williams added 10 points and five assists, moving past Willie Banks for seventh on UNM’s all-time assist list. Williams now has 422 assists, and the Lobos are 36-4 when he has at least five assists in a game.
The Lobos (26-4, 13-2 MWC) shot 50 percent from the field for the fifth time this season. They fired 56 percent in their previous meeting with Nevada.
