Men’s soccer

Freshman Nick Rochowksi scored the game-winning goal Sunday in Washington, D.C., to lead the ninth-ranked New Mexico men past Georgetown.

The Lobos and No. 11 Hoyas battled through a scoreless regulation game that forced an overtime session. At the 103-minute mark, Rochowksi fired the ball at the net off a rebound after Georgetown goalie Tomas Gomez saved a shot by UNM senior James Rogers.

The win came two days after UNM settled for a 1-all tie with Virginia Commonwealth in Richmond, Va. Rogers had the goal against the Rams off a James Wypych assist. The Lobos are now 2-0-1 on the season.

Men’s tennis

Junior Samir Iftikhar won the Flight A singles championship Sunday, leading the Lobos at the North Carolina-Wilmington Collegiate Invitational. Iftikhar captured a 6-4, 6-4 victory over VCU’s Alejandro Argente in the final.

In the back draw of the Flight A Singles bracket, Mitch McDaniels defeated Eastern Carolina’s Damien Brenard 6-1, 6-2 on Sunday.
UNM will compete again this weekend at the Midland Invitational in Midland, Texas.
