Woman reports unwanted contact by man at SUB
On Oct. 31, a UNMPD officer was dispatched to the Student Union Building in response to a reported battery. According to the police report, the female victim was at the southern end of the SUB when an unfamiliar man touched her “from her shoulders down her back” without her permission. The man allegedly kissed the top of her head, then walked past her to sit with another woman. The victim told police that after a few minutes, the man left the other woman and exited the SUB. The victim said the man did not threaten her and did not sound angry while speaking to her, the report states.
The officer spoke to students in the vicinity after interviewing the victim, asking whether they had noticed anything unusual at the time of the incident. Police tried to locate the man according to the victim’s description, but were unable to. The case is currently closed.
Police report: lock cut, bike stolen near Zimmerman
On Nov. 1, an officer was flagged down by a woman in reference to a possible bicycle theft. According to the report, the woman told police she locked her bike near Zimmerman Library around noon, and when she returned two hours later, it was gone. She told police that her bike lock had been cut, and that her bike was worth approximately $100.
She was unable to provide a serial number or the bike model to the officer. The victim completed a written statement, and the case is closed pending further leads.
Report: Patient at UNMH assaults worker, injures self
On Nov. 2, police were dispatched to the UNM Mental Health Center in response to a battery incident involving a patient and a health care worker. Upon arrival, an officer spoke to the victim, a worker who said that he was assisting a UNMH security officer with a combative patient. The patient allegedly got out of bed while said officer and the worker were attempting to calm him down, and then hit the worker on the back of his head. A nurse reported trying to stop the patient, who then reportedly fell over and hit his head on a door. The patient suffered a laceration on the head and was rushed to the hospital’s emergency room, according to the report.
Still, the worker told police that he wanted to file charges for “battery on a health care worker.” The worker filed a report, and a copy of it will be sent to the Office of the District Attorney for review.
Nothing stolen after vehicle break-in, report states
On Nov. 3, UNMPD received a call regarding criminal damage to a vehicle at the western parking structure at UNMH. According to the report, an officer spoke with the female victim, who stated that she parked and locked her car in the structure that afternoon and then left the area. When the woman returned, the rear window of her car was allegedly rolled down and items in the car were disturbed. According to the report, the suspect rifled through the contents of the vehicle, but the victim said nothing appeared to have been stolen.

Police advised the woman to process the vehicle for latent fingerprints, but she refused, according to the report. UNMH’s security staff told police that they would check video surveillance of the structure. Police were unable to find suspects or witnesses for the incident and have taken no further action on the case.
