A skateboard, laptop, insurance card, scooter and camera were all reported stolen within two days last week.
Aug. 25
A report was made with the UNM Police Department in reference to a larceny. According to the report, the victim placed his skateboard in the corner of a classroom at the education building at around 10:50 a.m. The student then left the class without the skateboard. When the student went back for the skateboard shortly after leaving, he discovered it was gone.
UNMPD was dispatched to the biomedical research lab in reference to a stolen laptop. According to the report, the victim was working at her designated work area inside room 323 of the biomedical research facility. The victim left that area for about one hour and returned to find her computer missing.
UNMPD was dispatched to the student success center in reference to an auto burglary. According to the report, the victim was parked at the location from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. During that time, while the victim was in class, someone entered her car and took the insurance card and the registration. It appeared that no forced entry was used to enter the vehicle.
Aug. 26
UNMPD was dispatched to Lobo Village in reference to a stolen scooter. According to the report, a student advised police that his scooter had been stolen between 10 p.m. and 6:30 a.m. The scooter was under 50cc.
A report was made with UNMPD in reference to a larceny. According to the report, the victim entered the math and science building at around 1:30 p.m. to use a computer. The victim reported that he left a camera next to a computer he was using then exited the building. The victim reported that he immediately went back and found that the camera was missing.
Lt. Tim Stump, UNMPD public information officer, said property crime is the most common type of crime at UNM. UNM’s police department suggests that students keep their property with them at all times, and not leave any property unattended for any amount of time. The department stresses that larceny is a crime of opportunity that can often be prevented.
