Crime briefs for Oct. 17, 2014

Phallic symbol scrawled on instructor’s window

On Oct. 2, UNMPD was dispatched by an instructor in reference to a phallic symbol drawn on his window. According to the report, an unknown person drew the symbol in the dust of the victim’s interior office window. The victim reported that the act could be a homophobic crime, since he is the only openly gay male employee on that floor. The main office door to the department is normally locked, but was left open for some time that day for repairs. The victim said he does not know who would have drawn the symbol and has not had conflict with anyone within the department.

Computer monitor stolen

On Oct. 6, UNMPD was dispatched to the UNM print shop in reference to a stolen computer monitor. According to the report, the operator of the print shop said she noticed a monitor that connects to a printer was missing. Nothing else inside the shop seemed to be disturbed or missing. There did not appear to be any type of forced entry. All of the doors of the print shop were secured but one door to the building that the print shop is in was found open.

Car robbed off campus

On Oct. 7, UNMPD was dispatched to Yale Boulevard north of Avenida Cesar Chavez in reference to an auto burglary. According to the report, the victim parked and left her car unlocked at 4:15 p.m. When she returned at 6:45 p.m. she found her server book that was holding cash was missing.

University robbed through a cut fence

On Oct. 8, UNMPD was dispatched to the surplus building in reference to a burglary. According to the report, the suspect had cut through a fence and taken metal from new switchboxes, and two speakers. Other various metal items were taken from two UNM vehicles as well. A wrench, a saw blade and a ratchet were left behind by the suspect, UNMPD however, was unable to detect any fingerprints.
