The New Mexico volleyball team lost its first two Mountain West matches of the season this weekend at San Diego State and UNLV.

On Friday, the Aztecs beat the Lobos 3-2 (25-17, 15-25, 26-24, 22-25, 8-15). Redshirt senior outside hitter Chantale Riddle led the team with 17 kills and a .205 hitting percentage. Sophomore Maddie Mayfield had a career-high 23 digs.

UNM (11-7, 4-2 Mountain West) then lost to UNLV 3-0 (23-25, 23-25, 20-25) on Saturday. Riddle had a team-high 11 kills and 11 digs for her seventh career double-double.

U.S. Bank gift

The U.S. Bank donated $1.7 million to Lobo Athletics for the naming rights to Premium Seating areas at Lobo football and basketball games through 2021-22, New Mexico Vice President for Athletics Paul Krebs announced on Friday.

The donation is the second-largest cash gift ever to UNM Athletics.

“U.S. Bank’s commitment to the Lobo athletics program, student success and the community reflects our shared values and philosophies,” UNM President Bob Frank said in a release. “We are thrilled with this opportunity to be affiliated with an organization that is so deeply invested in New Mexico and UNM.”

Women’s soccer

Redshirt freshman defender Emily Chavez scored both of New Mexico’s goals for wins over UNLV and Nevada this weekend.

Chavez scored the game-winner with a header off a corner kick in the 64th minute for a 1-0 victory on Friday. The Rebels outshot the Lobos 13-11, forcing UNM’s redshirt junior goalie Cassie Ulrich to make six saves.

UNM (5-4-2, 3-1-2 Mountain West) followed that performance with another 1-0 victory at Nevada on Sunday. Chavez scored in the 61st minute.
