Fondling suspect caught after chase

On Oct. 17, UNM Police Department arrested a man on campus for false imprisonment. According to the report, UNMPD was dispatched to R Lot after the victim stated that an unknown man had grabbed her from behind, picked her up and fondled her vaginal area over her clothes while she was walking through the lot at about 1 p.m. The victim screamed as loud as she could and the offender released her and fled. Shortly after, the victim identified the suspect to police near the Casa del Rio dorms. UNMPD pursued the suspect after he ran and took him into custody.

The suspect provided a false name to officers. UNMPD found the suspect carrying a knife, keys, dog tags with the suspect’s actual name and wearing women’s underwear. The suspect claimed that he harassed the victim on a dare, but could not provide evidence of who dared him. The suspect also claimed that someone else was driving his car, but he was carrying his car keys. The suspect’s vehicle was found parked in R Lot, far away from where the incident occurred, prompting UNMPD to believe the suspect was casing the area on foot.

The case is considered cleared by arrest.

Theft from UNM employee office

On Oct. 21, an employee from the Department of Physics and Astronomy made a report with UNMPD in reference to a theft from his office. According to the report, the victim left his office in the building at 2:15 p.m. for about seven minutes. When he returned, his found his laptop was stolen. The office door was unsecured while the victim was gone.

Student found with pot in Redondo Village

On Oct. 23, UNMPD was dispatched to Redondo Village in reference to narcotics. According to the report, after noticing a strong odor of marijuana, a resident assistant found a small amount of marijuana and a pipe in a dorm room. UNMPD contacted the resident who admitted to owning the narcotics and pipe. The officer explained UNM’s drug policy to the student and sent a copy of the report to the Dean of Students for review.

Car vandalized in Cornell parking lot

On Oct. 24, a student reported vandalism to her vehicle to UNMPD. According to the report, the victim’s car was parked in the Cornell Parking structure from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. During that time, someone had scratched the length of her car door. There are no leads to any suspects.
