UNM assistant coach arrested on DWI charge

Running backs coach Apollo Wright arrested for driving while intoxicated

The last 30 days have not been ideal amidst New Mexico football's offseason.

Towards the end of February, the UNM Police Department excersized a warrant to search the apartment of cornerback Nias Martin for an alleged rape of a 19-year-old UNM student.

The early stages of March have now found football head coach Bob Davie releasing a statement Friday night regarding running backs coach and special teams coordinator Apollo Wright's DWI arrest.

“Last night one of our assistant football coaches Apollo Wright informed me that he had been arrested for a DUI. This is obviously disappointing and a very serious matter. I will continue to evaluate this as it unfolds," Davie's statement reads.

Wright has been on Davie's assistant coaching staff since 2013 when he joined the Lobos as the running backs coach.

More information will be reported as it becomes available.
