Monday on the Street: Supporting UNM sports

What is the importance of supporting your school’s athletics?

Gerardo Gajeton, graduate student, business administration

“Well, it’s marketing. If you support your school’s athletics, number one you get the attention of the alumni community and the other people around the community. If you get the attention of those, you get more people participating during the event and, of course, if you keep on winning that counts too.”

Christoph Hintz, graduate student, electrical engineering

“That’s a difficult question, because I’m actually from Germany and we don’t have school sports. We have clubs that are not attached to a school. But really, since I’m here, I really enjoy going to games and feeling the whole team spirit. I just enjoy it and I think it’s important for the team. If they feel that they get supported and it’s definitely for the students, it’s such a nice thing to socialize and the whole atmosphere is awesome.”

Norvin Notah, junior, psychology

“I think you’re supposed to, right? You go to school here.”

Erin Sandoval, junior, psychology

“I think that they are the face of our school, they get filmed and they get publicized and they are really the face of the school. So I think it’s good to give them the support that they need and more.”
