What is the importance of having a diverse faculty?
Mali Snyder, junior, psychology
“First and foremost, I mean there’s diversity in students here, so you have to have an understanding of every kind of person that wants to go to the University — , and lots of different perspectives, culturally, and men versus women. It’s good to have that mix of viewpoints.”
Kyle VanAmburg, senior, business marketing
“New Mexico is a really diverse place, and being in a college with teachers that represent you and know your background (is important). Diversity is never a bad thing, and just having those different backgrounds and different viewpoints in a place of education and learning, I think that brings a lot to the table.”
Sierra Ludington, senior, intercultural communication and Spanish

“I think the importance of having a diverse faculty is the faculty reflects the student body, and, I think, in a lot of cultural centers — like African American, Hispanic, Native American studies — it’s important that we have professors who are of those ethnicities who can speak to those experiences and teach those courses better.”
Leroy Martinez, junior, athletic training
“I think, since we are advertising the University of New Mexico as a diverse campus and as a Hispanic-serving institution, for example, I think it’s important to have that diverse staff to actually show that we’re not just advertising it to get people here, (but) that we’re actually practicing it and embracing the different cultures and different diversity we have, within our nation and world.”
