Attempted battery of UNMH nurse
On the morning of Sept. 6, officers were dispatched to the University of New Mexico Hospital’s trauma room to speak with a nurse who said a patient grabbed her by the arm and pushed her while she was administering care to him, according to the UNMPD report.
The patient then pulled back his fist, seeming to prepare to hit the victim, who feared the situation would escalate. According to the report, another nurse saw the patient’s movements and yelled to him, which made him stop harming the victim.
The patient was sedated, and hospital staff said he needed further medical treatment. The victim told police she was not injured and does not intend to prosecute.
Evidence of gunfire at Farris Engineering
Sometime between Sept. 14 and 16, an officer was dispatched to the Farris Engineering Building — which is currently undergoing remodeling — where three construction employees found evidence that an unknown subject fired a handgun on the first floor, according to the UNMPD report.
One of the employees showed the officer a full metal jacket bullet that had traveled through the floor of the first level and into the basement. The bullet landed roughly eight inches away from pressure vessels containing nitrogen, argon, oxygen, carbon dioxide and hydrogen gasses.
The unknown subject appeared to have fired 13 live rounds using a .45 automatic Colt Pistol. Shots were fired through a plastic tarp and one wall, stopping after striking a secondary concrete wall. Bullet fragments were also found on site.
Attempted robbery outside Johnson Center
On Sept. 14, a UNM student began walking from Popejoy Hall to his dorm around 9 p.m., when an unknown male dressed in tan pants and a navy hoodie came out from behind bushes on the north side of Johnson Center, the UNMPD report states.
The male demanded that the victim give him his cell phone. The victim ran back to his dorm, managing to hold onto his $400 phone, and contacted a residential advisor who suggested he file a police report.
The victim was unable to see the unknown male’s face but said he had a strange smell on him, making the victim believe he may have been under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. The case is closed and pending further leads.

Verbal assault and harassment by male student
On Sept. 17, an officer collected a written statement and spoke with a female student who claimed her now ex-boyfriend verbally assaulted her and began to harass her, according to the UNMPD report.
During their relationship, the female was playing video games in her dorm room with another male when her boyfriend entered and became verbally abusive, she stated in the report.
He later sent her insulting text messages, and his actions made her feel so threatened and unsafe that she spent the night elsewhere, the report states. The female said she would like UNMPD to instruct him to stop harassing her; however, she does not wish to prosecute at this time.
The officer met with the male student at UNMPD, who said his ex-girlfriend had been unfaithful to him less than a month into the relationship, which made him feel hurt and angry. According to the report, the male wanted to collect his belongings, had broken up with the female student and has no plans on dating her again.
The officer he met with informed him of the charges he may face if the harassment continues.
