Verbal Domestic Dispute at Student Family Housing
On Sept. 18, a police officer was sent to UNM Student Family Housing at 941 Buena Vista Dr. SE, where a caller described excessive yelling and loud noises coming from one apartment, according to the UNMPD report.
When the officer arrived, a female said she went out with friends to celebrate her birthday and did not return to the apartment until 2 a.m. She and her boyfriend engaged in a verbal dispute, because he was upset that she had returned at that time, she said in the report.
Her boyfriend left the apartment on foot with the keys to her vehicle. The female said she was concerned for him and her vehicle. The two were visiting her sister who lived at Student Family Housing, and they were hoping to return to their home in Crownpoint, New Mexico the following day.
An area check was completed in an attempt to find the boyfriend, but he could not be located. The on-duty resident adviser was told to call UNMPD if there were any other calls concerning that particular apartment.
Emergency mental health evaluation at Hokona Hall
On the evening of Sept. 23, an officer was dispatched to Hokona Hall in response to a depressed female student who was having suicidal thoughts, according to the UNMPD report.
Upon arrival, the officer attempted to speak with the female, but she was flustered and did not want to discuss anything with the officer. Two of the student’s friends told the officer that she said she wanted to harm herself with an X-Acto knife, and that she had been in this depressed state of mind for two days.
The female student later agreed to have the officer escort her to the UNM Mental Health Center for an emergency mental health evaluation, according to the report.

According to the UNMPD report, the officer engaged emergency equipment to stop the driver when a decommissioned police vehicle accelerated toward the exit. The officer spoke with the male driver, who immediately apologized for speeding and driving so carelessly.
The officer told the subject that there was a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The subject said he smoked earlier that day, and when asked to give the officer any drugs or drug paraphernalia he had, the male gave the officer a small green metal pipe and a clear bag of what the subject stated was marijuana.
The bag and pipe were tagged as evidence, the male was cited for careless driving and a summons was issued for the possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The subject was then released.
Battery and criminal property damage at Mesa Vista Hall
On the afternoon of Sept. 29, a UNMPD officer was sent to Mesa Vista Hall in reference to a male and female fighting over a cell phone, according to a police report. The female spoke with the officer upon arrival.
There were cuts on her hand, and she was grasping it in pain, apparently upset. She claimed the wounds on her hand were a result of her ex-boyfriend biting her, and the pain was also caused by him gripping and squeezing her hand.
The female subject said the male became upset when he looked through her phone and saw that she was contacting other males. He attempted to leave Mesa Vista Hall with her phone, and the two fought over the phone for several minutes.
When the officer spoke with the male, the subject had a small scratch on the side of his face, and his shirt was torn. The male said during the altercation, he pushed and struck her face with his palm.
He said he destroyed her cell phone after she pulled his sunglasses (valued at over six hundred dollars) off of his face and broke them. The male said the female kicked his vehicle, tore his shirt and battered him.
