On May 9, 2025, PinkPantheress released her new album “Fancy That.”
The British singer has amassed huge success since the beginning of her career, with approximately 2.7 billion streams on Spotify. You may recognize her from the song “Boy’s a liar Pt. 2” with Ice Spice, or “Pain,” a song that first gained popularity on TikTok.
The unique process of production is one of the defining features behind her success.
The singer, songwriter and producer’s fame arose from her bedroom with only a laptop and a microphone connected to the app “GarageBand.” This is incredibly impressive and iconic in the new age music world. We saw something similar with Steve Lacy when he began producing from GarageBand and went on to produce for mainstream artists, including Kendrick Lamar.
At the 2024 Billboard Women in Music Festival, PinkPantheress was awarded “Producer of the Year.”
“Only as my music started to develop did I think of adding my own drums, my own keys, until I was making some beats from scratch. That’s when I felt comfortable calling myself a producer,” PinkPantheress said during her acceptance speech.
PinkPantheress decided to do something different, showcasing her range of expertise in all aspects of musical elements for “Fancy That.”
Her previous albums, including “to hell with it,” have a slower and electronic vibe to it. In “Fancy That,” she still has her iconic electronic pop vibe, but her songs are faster and upbeat.
It reminds me of Charli XCX’s “Brat.” The duality of both genres is incredible to see throughout PinkPantheress’ discography. It credits her as a producer and songwriter — she can advance from one genre to the next.
“Younger people will be like ‘I miss when she did drums and bass,’ but how can I do that? It shows no development. It shows no growth,” PinkPantheress said in an Apple Music interview with Zane Lowe.
PinkPantheress released a remix, “Illegal (Nia Archives Remix)” on Friday, June 27, with the first song off her recently released album, “Fancy That.”
One of my favorites, “Noises,” has a small sample of Nardo Wick’s “Who Want Smoke??,” a rap song that blew up in 2021, showcasing PinkPantheress’ variety of musical influences.

“Romeo,” another iconic song off the 2025 album, samples “Basement Jaxx,” an icon in the underground electronic music world.
“I try to have it so anyone that listens to me can feel like we all have a sense of belonging in my world,” PinkPantheress said.
