The Albuquerque Isotopes take on the Las Vegas Aviators again this week, coming home after splitting the series with the Oklahoma City Comets last week. The Isotopes were looking for a win in game one to start the series.
Isotopes Manager Pedro Lopez said he feels the team could have won 4 out of the six against Oklahoma City.
“Unfortunately, it didn't happen. We ended up splitting, but it’s nice to be home and get the first one out of the way,” Lopez said.
Neither team scored any runs until the top of the third inning, when Las Vegas’s Jacob Wilson hit a solo home run, which was the team’s only run in the inning. At the bottom of the third inning, the Isotopes responded with runs of their own, ultimately taking a 3–1 lead over the Aviators with home runs from Isotopes players Sam Hilliard and Sean Bouchard.
Still down 3–1 Las Vegas scored 2 runs tying up the game at the top of the 7th inning,. The game wasn’t tied for long, as in the bottom of the 7th inning the Isotopes brought in 5 runs with the highlight coming from Owen Miller, who hit a grand slam to left field.
“I think Owen (Miller) has been swinging really good as of late, he's been playing really good, and it was well needed for us,” Lopez said.
The Isotopes would score one more run in the bottom of the eight securing a 9–3 win and taking a 1-0 series lead.
The Isotopes lost the next two games of the series, 9–3 and 11-10, and will go into their game tonight trailing in the series 2–1.
