Where there’s a victor, there’s a loser, and sometimes, certain athletes contribute to their team’s shortcomings. These athletes are favorably called bobbleheads.
Miami Dolphins
NFL free agency officially started on March 11, and ever since it began the Miami Dolphins have made some Bobblehead-esque moves. To Miami’s credit they cut quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who was arguably one of the key contributors to the team's lack of success in recent years. To replace Tagovailoa, Miami decided to go out and sign quarterback Malik Willis from the Green Bay Packers, signing him to a three year, $67.5 million contract with $45 million guaranteed.
Willis showed flashes in the games he played in this past season, but he didn’t do anything that would’ve warranted that much money. Willis also won’t have a lot of talent surrounding him, as the Dolphins decided to clean house this off-season. Miami released key talents such as star wide receiver Tyreek Hill and linebacker Bradley Chubb, while also trading away safety Minkah Fitzpatrick and star wide receiver Jaylen Waddle. Miami hasn’t made any eye opening acquisitions in free agency either. currently leaving the team in a state of mediocrity.
Los Angeles Clippers: center Brook Lopez
Clippers center Brook Lopez had an abysmal performance against the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday, March 19. Lopez played 29 minutes, going 2 of 9 from the field and missing all 3 of his 3-point attempts. Lopez was not much better in the rebounding department either, as he was only able to snag a measly 3 boards.
The Clippers would go onto lose 105-99 against the Pelicans; a better performance from Lopez could’ve easily seen this game go in the favor of the Clippers. The Clippers are now currently on a four game losing streak and hold a spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament.
Miami Heat: guard Davion Mitchell
The Miami Heat took a nasty beat down from the Charlotte Hornets on Tuesday, March 17. Outside of the fact the Heat had no answer for Hornets guard LaMelo Ball, Heat guard Davion Mitchell played below average basketball. Mitchell played 26 minutes, amassing only 4 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists while shooting a mediocre 2 of 7. While it's not guaranteed a better performance from Mitchell would’ve led the Heat to a victory, it could’ve made the score more respectable.
