The cafe scene in Nob Hill has always been a hotspot for students, but one spot is seeking to go beyond the usual cup of coffee: Limonata Cafe.
Ever since I first came to Albuquerque, I’ve regularly returned to Limonata. On my first visit, I expected it to be your average spot near campus, but to my surprise, I stepped into a cozy and warm space filled with decorations that reminded me of my grandma’s house, plus a lush garden with fountains to sit beside while I enjoyed my meal.
Beyond the aesthetic, the cafe uses fresh ingredients and serves high-quality dishes. Some of my favorites include their delectable crepes, house chocolate piñon coffee and their whimsical lavender lemonade.
The cafe creates a true community space, where you will often see works from local artists for sale on the walls, local authors tabling with their books, and people taking time to sit down and truly enjoy the space without rushing out.
Every time I go, I notice how the cafe staff always welcome their customers and get to know them. On my second visit to Limonata, they already knew my name and remembered what I had gotten the week before.
During the many times I’ve gone, I have noticed that the cafe takes care of our unhoused neighbors by giving them a free, quality meal and letting them enjoy the patio seating in the relentless New Mexico heat.
Limonata is more than a quick stop for a bite; it is a place I go to relax and feel like I am stepping into the comfort of my grandma’s house.
I am greeted with a smile and I can snack on a delicious quiche and sip some yummy lavender lemonade, all while the other regulars are alive with conversation.
I plan to keep returning to Limonata Cafe and supporting this local business that does more than turn a profit: they make people happy.
