Well, I was gonna tweet out something about a duel of fates, but then UNM became Anakin and lost the high ground and got they legs chopped off.San Jose State now leads 76-62. There is 2:25 left in the game, thus the game is pretty much over.
Members of the University of New Mexico community decried last month's increased police presence on campus amid the apex of Black Lives Matter protest activity in the state, taking particular issue with UNM President Garnett Stokes' milquetoast response to the image of snipers atop UNM's George Pearl Hall.
The Associated Students of the University of New Mexico’s senate sent a message to the University community on Wednesday that Black lives matter.
A photograph of two New Mexico State Police officers climbing atop the University of New Mexico's George Pearl Hall carrying what appeared to be sniper rifles on Sunday evening has circulated widely on social media, drawing condemnation from the campus community in all directions.
Editor's note: A previous version of this story noted that Vance Jackson told reporters at the Mountain West Championships that he would return for next season, which is untrue. The story has been update with this information in mind.
Here at UNM, we're a week into our extended spring break, and I've spent all of my time in my room writing about math. And if you know me, you probably knew that I was going to spend my break this way, pandemic isolation or not.
With the extended break looming, UNM’s dedicated coronavirus webpage has updated its travel recommendations for students who plan to leave the state, stressing that students should “avoid spring break travel to areas with active community transmission of COVID-19”.
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA — A true tale of two halves, the University of New Mexico men’s basketball 2019-2020 season came to an end in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain West Championship tournament on March 5.
THE PIT — It was quite the swan song for seniors JaQuan Lyle and Corey Manigault.
BOISE, IDAHO — 2020 hasn't been kind to the Lobos, to say the least.
The Lobo crowd gave former head coaches Steve Alford and Craig Neal a true Pit welcome Tuesday night, as the now-Nevada coaching duo were introduced to thundering jeers from 12,000 strong.
The freefall continues for men's basketball.
Ah, the Pit. The mile-high home of Lobo basketball since 1966 has a storied history as one of most daunting venues in all of college hoops, and certainly one of its loudest. With stands angling steeply to a playing floor, the Pit gives the fans a legitimate presence in the game. It’s customary for the thousands of Lobo faithful to stay on their feet from the opening tip until University of New Mexico records its first points of the game. Generally, this comes in the game’s opening sequence to a raucous, Pit-worthy roar. Cut to last week’s game against still-unbeaten San Diego State.
The University of New Mexico’s Emergency Management department issued a university-wide statement on Friday informing students about the novel coronavirus outbreak. The flu-like illness has infected over 16,000 people globally and taken at least 304 lives to date, according to the World Health Organization, which declared the outbreak a global health emergency last week.
It was over before it started.
THE PIT — If ever the Lobos men’s basketball team needed a morale-boosting win, Tuesday night’s home tilt against San José State was it.
FORT COLLINS, CO — Maybe the first half of the Lobos’ season was just a flash in the pan. Maybe the University of New Mexico’s sagging defensive philosophy just isn’t suited for the modern game.
Another game, another slow start and another unconvincing victory for the Lobo men's basketball team on a late night at the Pit on Tuesday, Jan. 7.
