There’s a guy we have seen a few times lately. Not the same guy, but the same essential story, and one worth telling because it is happening more often. I’ll call him Dennis.

Q: I like to smoke weed sometimes to relax. But I’m applying for a job that is going to test my urine, and a friend told me I can smoke spice instead of weed and it won’t show up in my urine. Is that true?
Welcome or welcome back to UNM!
Welcome back. I hope you got some rest and had some fun over the break.
Thanksgiving traditionally kicks off a season of feasting. At least for some of us, there will be plenty of opportunities to overindulge in the next month.
Dear Dr. Peg,
This is the time of year when I wave my arms and shout into the void, helplessly hoping that I can convince you to take care of yourself.
Dear Non-Veteran Student,
You might have noticed that things are a little different at Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) this year. We have implemented a new system called Open Access. Here is how it works:

Dear Dr. Peg, I have a friend who is doing the HCG diet with the drops, not injections, and wanted to know if you know about it and what you thought of it. From what I found out, they do it for 30-40 days and have a lot of restrictions and things they have to do and are on a 500-calorie diet. I was concerned that it might not be healthy or safe.
Dear Dr. Peg, I’m looking for someone to help me with my husband who is bipolar and refuses to get the help he needs. Please help me contact somebody I can talk to about this issue.
Dear Dr Peg, What is the fastest way to get rid of a cold sore when it is already on your lip? Please help. My social life is suffering and my boyfriend threatened to cheat.
Welcome to the new school year! I expect you have been busy settling into your dorm or new apartment, working out your schedule, finding all your classes and figuring out parking. Whew! Well done. Now maybe you can give a minute’s thought to your health. I hope you stay well and healthy all year, but just in case, did you know you can get health care right here on campus? Student Health and Counseling (SHAC) is located across the mall to the east of the SUB. Our goal is to help you stay healthy and in school. Any registered student can use SHAC services. You can be a part-time or a full-time student, with or without health insurance. Here is what we offer:
Dear Dr. Peg,
By now most of you have finished your finals and are getting ready to head for the beach, the folks’ house, or the summer job. Congratulations on getting another semester notch on your belt. Take a minute to appreciate yourself for all the hard work you have done. But before you throw your stuff in the car and hit the road, remember that getting into a car is the most dangerous thing you can do. I’m speaking statistically. Car crashes are the No. 1 cause of death for Americans under 45. You probably know someone who has died in a car crash. Perhaps worse, you might know someone who has been permanently maimed. Brain damage, spinal cord damage, paralysis and loss of limbs are just some of the long term horrors that can result from a crash.
Dear Dr. Peg When I get a headache or get sick with body aches or fever, I like to take something to help me feel better. But I heard that acetaminophen can destroy your liver and ibuprofen can destroy your stomach. Is there anything else? What can I do? -Achey
