Community should help stop racial harassment

Editor, We write in response to the recent incidents of physical and verbal harassment of people of Middle Eastern and South Asian descent. These ugly incidents have occurred near campus, and many have targeted UNM students. Incidents reportedly include sexual harassment, physical aggression and verbal jeering followed by a cynical "namaste," and at least one armed robbery and beating.

Indian students report racially charged attacks

More than 20 male Indian students were physically assaulted by a man on and around campus in the last four months, the president of the India Students Association said. Bhavana Upadhyaya said the attacks follow a similar pattern: Indian men are approached in broad daylight by a man who kicks them to the ground.

Editor, It appears that Kenneth Turner, in his letter published in the Daily Lobo on Monday, is making a popular but unwarranted statement in his response to the letter by Benjamin Sanchez. He says if someone expresses an opinion condemning homosexuality, that person must hate homosexuals.
