Cell phone ban will keep drivers focused and safe

Editor, No one will be happier than me when the new cell phone ban takes effect on Saturday. There are indeed times when having a cell phone is essential, and they have even saved lives. However, during this same period, I have noticed a huge increase in people talking on their cell phones for no good reason while driving around town.

Editor, One of the questions consistently asked of the presidential finalists was about their qualifications to be the president of UNM, a complex organization of about 30,000 students, 3,000 faculty and quite a large staff. Yet, hardly 20 students and usually less than 100 faculty or staff attended their respective forums.

Alleged sightings of flying reptiles cause residents to reconsider history

One hundred million years ago, New Mexico lay nameless and borderless and partially submerged beneath sprawling, shallow seas. Dinosaurs of every size and appetite wandered to the edge of such seas, in search of plants, water or smaller creatures further down the food chain. The air above them hung hot and dense, sagging with humidity, and pterosaurs flapped and glided against it.

It wasn't the cakewalk some people might have expected. After the UNM women's basketball team throttled Colorado State in a 31-point win on the road last month, Wednesday's rematch at The Pit was a battle until the final minutes.

New buildings shouldn't take place of golf course

Editor, I am writing to protest any impending plans to obliterate the UNM North Golf Course and replace it with buildings. Development at the expense of a treasured refuge is unacceptable. The UNM North Golf Course is one of the major assets UNM makes available to the community.

ASUNM Facebook group meant to be taken as joke

Editor, I am writing in response to the letter published Tuesday about the ASUNM Facebook.com group page. As I read the article, I couldn't help but feel responsible for the misunderstanding. The reason I feel responsible is because I was the one who created the page back in 2004.
