UNM officials completed a trade Monday that will give the University land for a Rio Rancho campus. Jamie Koch, president of the Board of Regents, said the campus is necessary for the University's success. "There's only so much we can expand on this (main) campus," he said. "The University should have gone out to the West Side a long time ago."
Editor, Monday's article by Abigail Ramirez was a one-sided regurgitation of Judy Anderson's opinion of the proposed tax hike. The so-called Quality of Life tax represents a hostile business climate, a regressive tax burden on a poor county and a disturbing trend in government paternalism and cronyism.
Editor, I am writing in response to Monday's article about the closing of Zia Lot. Closing Zia Lot will not help improve gas prices - all it will do is add to the mass chaos of hundreds of students waiting for the shuttle at South Lot. Every day I park in South Lot and walk to Zia Lot with many of my fellow students in hopes to get to class on time.
Lynda Lovejoy, a Navajo Nation presidential candidate, came to UNM on Monday to address students' concerns about Navajo health care, scholarship funding and sovereignty. About 100 people attended the forum hosted by Native-American Studies in the SUB.
Anyone can be like James Bond or Austin Powers. That is if they pick up some spy tools from the Spy Shop.
Editor, This is in response to Deanna Delgado's letter in Monday's Daily Lobo stating that nonvoters are not lazy or uninformed. I agree with that assessment. She used an example that since no candidate represents what she stands for, "It's like offering me the choice between a turkey sandwich or a ham croissant when I'm a vegetarian.
Editor, In response to David Gonzalez's letter on Monday, he is right - there is a real problem when a specific group of people is picked out for discrimination. However, there are far more people than just those who claim to be Christians that discriminate against the gay community.

Editor, This smoking-ban issue is really getting on my nerves - more so than the secondhand smoke that supposedly pollutes the entire campus. I am not a smoker, but I am completely against the ban on smoking. Since when is it OK to take a constitutional right away from a public university? If people are paying to come to school here and get a proper education, why can't they enjoy a perfectly legal activity, such as smoking a cigarette while walking to class? We already have rules on campus that state a smoker cannot stand near any doors or windows, and that they cannot smoke in any buildings, so why continue trying to force people to quit doing something they enjoy? If people want to smoke, let them.
UNM dropped its pants for charity this month as part of Cotton's Dirty Laundry Tour. ASUNM's Community Experience collected about 1,300 pairs of jeans and denim clothing for the program, said Doug Rocks-Macqueen, assistant director of the organization. The tour came to UNM on Monday to pick up the denim, which has been collected around campus over the last two weeks.
Full Blown Chaos Within The Grasp of Titans Available Now After listening to this travesty of modern speed metal, I can only think of one thing I could do to myself that would be equally as damaging to my auditory senses - taking an ice pick and jabbing it repeatedly into my ear. This album shows ...
Michael Miller Freshman Nutrition and dietetics Why do you want to major in nutrition and dietetics? I have always been interested in how the human body works. I started lifting weights a couple years ago and was more interested in how to build muscle as far as nutrition went - protein and creatine ...
University students Vanessa Garcia, Sebastian Iriart and Eric Garcia received awards Saturday at the Unsung Heroes Award Banquet in the SUB.
UNM basketball fans were treated to a night of high-flying dunks, scrimmages and a 3-point shootout Friday night at The Pit.
by Abigail Ramirez Daily Lobo As Election Day nears, paying an extra 18 cents for a $100 item has become a topic of debate. The Quality of Life tax could make Albuquerque unique, said Judy Anderson, who spoke in favor of the tax at a debate Saturday. "One of the things that makes this city livable ...
If the Lobo offense is any indication, playing four straight overtime games may wear on a team.
Editor, The Daily Lobo deserves praise for publishing an article Wednesday that makes people aware of the problems that gay people are still facing as a community. All too often, people look no further than the Bible for resources. They turn to the Bible, which has been interpreted and reinterpreted by priests, pastors and parents over and over again through the years.
Editor, I am a left-winger - way left. In fact, I'm so far left that I don't really feel that voting is really up my alley, since no candidates seem to represent what I stand for. It's like offering me the choice between a turkey sandwich or a ham croissant when I'm a vegetarian.
