On Sept. 13, UNMPD received a call from a woman who lives near the UNM area about a black sport utility vehicle “driving erratically” on the grass west of Ortega Hall. According to the police report, the woman saw the van hit an “unknown fixed object.”

The testosterone will flow at this weekend’s UNM Friends of Dance Alumni concert. Though the cast of the performances is an even balance between men and women, each piece was choreographed by men alone.

Overcrowding at UNMH unresolved

After more than a year of discussion, UNM Hospital has yet to settle on a solution to its high occupancy rate. William Sparks, executive director for communication and marketing at UNM Health Sciences Center, said UNM officials began to focus on the issue late in 2011. He said the debate began because the occupancy rate at UNMH exceeds typical levels.

Art contest returns to UNM

After decades, UNM’s art arena reopens to showcase student projects, and to vie against each other for prizes. Paintings, photographs and other artworks were displayed in the John Sommers Gallery in the Art Building Friday night as part of a juried art exhibit.

On Sept. 12, police were dispatched in response to a UNM student’s report that she had been scammed online. According to the report, the woman said she received a check in the mail after responding to an ad on Craigslist and then cashed the check.

UNMH recognized for joint care, education

After years of replacing hip bones and patellas, the UNM Hospital has finally gained recognition for its work. The Joint Commission, a not-for-profit organization that accredits and certifies more than 20,000 health care organizations and programs in the country, awarded a certification to UNMH for its hip and knee replacement programs at the end of July.

Faith groups gather to pray for Syria

About 30 members of the UNM community collected near the Duck Pond Tuesday night for a gathering called “Spread the Light: A Candlelight Vigil for Syria.” The vigil, hosted by the Canterbury Campus Ministry, was intended to bring together community members of all faiths to pray for peace in Syria
