Men’s basketball coach Steve Alford has given his team “the biggest challenge of their lives.” The challenge was issued days after UNM was run out of the gym in Las Vegas by No. 15 UNLV in an 80-63 loss last Saturday.

The men’s tennis team’s early winning streak is on the line this weekend. UNM won its first two matches this spring season and travels to Gainesville, Fla. to take on No. 5 Florida in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) indoor playoff on Saturday.

For many college athletes, competing professionally is just a dream. But not for men’s soccer midfielders Lance Rozeboom and Michael Green, seniors who were both drafted in the supplemental rounds of the Major League Soccer (MLS) draft last Tuesday.

The men’s basketball team opened its conference play last weekend by doing something it didn’t do in the previous three seasons—win. Senior forward Drew Gordon said the team made a point to get off to a winning start in conference.

Seasoned players set to take conference

Three isn’t a crowd, but it is a goal for the baseball team. The UNM baseball team has been to the NCAA tournament for the last two years, and this year senior pitcher Rudy Jaramillo said the team expects to make it to the tournament again.

Break ends in victory, disappointment

The men’s and women’s basketball teams’ fortunes clashed during the winter break. The men’s team won all six of the games it played during break. It is now 15-2 overall and is on a 13-game winning streak, the fourth longest in the country.

Defense guards winning streak

The first half of the men’s basketball game on Saturday against North Dakota should have been called the Kendall Williams show. Williams, a sophomore guard, had 15 points in the first half and a career high of 21 points for the game.
