Intense sweep nets two wins

The men’s tennis team struck down two teams in one day. UNM swept its competition Saturday, beating Western New Mexico and Colorado State University-Pueblo with the same 7-0 score.

The women’s basketball team finally has a win in conference play. The Lobos started off in conference play 0-6, but beat Air Force 67-44 on Wednesday, and play Boise State tomorrow at home for a chance to start a winning streak.

The men’s tennis team had a rough time at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association indoor playoffs against No. 5 Florida. The Lobos were snapped in half 7-0 by the Gators to give UNM its first loss of the early season.

Men’s basketball coach Steve Alford has given his team “the biggest challenge of their lives.” The challenge was issued days after UNM was run out of the gym in Las Vegas by No. 15 UNLV in an 80-63 loss last Saturday.

The men’s basketball team opened its conference play last weekend by doing something it didn’t do in the previous three seasons—win. Senior forward Drew Gordon said the team made a point to get off to a winning start in conference.
