The last of the undefeated

The Lobo Men’s Soccer team is the last undefeated squad in the nation. The No.5 team is the only team in the country yet to lose a game after No.1 University of Connecticut, lost 2-0 on Wednesday to West Virginia. The Lobos are currently 11-0-2, and go one the road to face Seattle University on Friday.

Players warming up to Barlow

Mike Locksley’s 2-26 record didn’t earn him many fans off the field, but on the field his players supported him. Most of the players said they were sad to see him go. “It was sad at the moment, but we have to move on,” wide receiver Ty Kirk said.

Torn ACL benches player for second season in a row

Sara Halasz’s season is over before it even started. Halasz, a junior guard for the Lobo women’s basketball team, tore her right ACL last Friday in a team scrimmage at the Lobo Howl, putting her out for the entire season. She was chosen as a preseason All Mountain West Conference selection, and the injury is the same one she suffered last year that also benched her. “I am not going to let that bring me down,” Halasz said.

British Lobo runs up records

Ross Millington could go down as the greatest runner in the history of UNM. The 5-foot-7-inch, 125-pound Brit moved to Albuquerque right out of high school from Stockport, England, in January of 2009. Living alone, meeting new people and a being in a different part of the world surprised Millington. “I didn’t really know what to expect,” he said.

Messy win reminder to excel

It wasn’t a pretty finish, but a win is a win. After putting away six goals on Friday in its 6-0 win over Denver University, UNM could only muster a one-point victory as it beat Air Force 1-0 yesterday, to take them to 11-0-2 for the season. The only goal came in the first half as senior Lance Rozeboom was taken down in the box and converted the penalty kick. “I am proud of the guys for grinding it out,” Rozeboom said.

Assisted goal adds to conference record

Saturday night may have been windy and chilly, but the UNM women’s soccer team fought through it and beat UNLV 1-0. Senior Jennifer Williams got to celebrate her birthday Saturday by scoring the only goal of the night in the 10th minute.

Smarter tactics lead to wins

The UNM men’s soccer team is once again among the nation’s elite programs. In the last few years, the Lobos have had some great team lineups but have not lived up to their hype.

New lineup fails in overtime

In the fifth and final set against San Diego State, the UNM volleyball team needed just one more point to take the win, but it came too late. The Lobos lost by 16-25, 25-23, 27-25, 21-25, 15-17 Sunday afternoon at Johnson Center, after having five consecutive match-points go to waste.

Turning losses into experience

The UNM women’s soccer team has the chance to put an inconsistent season behind it when it faces UNLV on Saturday. The Lobos took a nose dive midway through the season after they lost three games in a row, but they bounced back with a four game unbeaten streak, including three wins and a tie to San Diego State University (SDSU) last week.

Young squad must step it up

The UNM volleyball team has 11 games left in its regular season, and there’s still one starting position to fill. This season, the Lobos have been shuffling through players trying to find the perfect complement to middle blocker Ashley Rhoades in the attack. “We’re really struggling in the outside hitting position in terms of people stepping up and being consistent,” head coach Jeff Nelson said.

Locksley claims good reputation, shifts blame

Last week, Locksley gave fans a delusional post-firing interview that yet again embarrassed everyone involved with the Lobos. The smug, no-emotion attitude that we have been graced with for the past three years was on display as he shared his thoughts on his tenure with KRQE sports director Van Tate.

Mounting mistakes cause continued loss

The Lobo football team losing streak hasn’t changed since the University fired head coach Mike Locksley. The Lobos lost to in-state rival New Mexico State 42-28, in front of more than 30,000 fans at University Stadium on Saturday. This is the fourth game of the season in which the Lobo defense allowed 42 points or more.

Slow start shapes late win

After being behind for nearly the entire game, UNM softball took control with three runs in the fifth inning to beat Eastern New Mexico University 4-2. In the last inning, errors and hits left the bases loaded with two outs for Eastern.
