Fourth-quarter plan goes awry

The Lobos were down by seven points in the final minutes of Saturday's game, facing fourth down and four yards. Head coach Rocky Long bet the Lobo defense could hold BYU to three plays and get the ball back for one more shot. He bet wrong.

Junior Gayle Tripp spends most of her time trying to thwart attacks. Tripp is UNM's libero - a defensive player who may pass, serve and dig balls but can't attack inside the 10-foot line or over the height of the net.

UNM leaves Hornets scoreless

What word would you use to describe a team that scores 30 points on 276 yards of total offense in the first half alone? Commanding? Dominant, perhaps? Lobo head coach Rocky Long says the more appropriate word would be lazy. That was his assessment after his team's 58-0 trouncing of Sacramento State on Saturday. Long said his team started out flat, but showed maturity in the latter part of the game.

The UNM men's soccer team started its two-game road trip with a bang, downing Cal-State Northridge 4-0 on Thursday in Northridge, Calif.

Tennis welcomes two international players

by Brandon Call Daily Lobo After four seniors graduated last season, the UNM women's tennis team added two international players to its 2007 lineup. Freshmen Emma Hayman and Victoria Tessmar join the Lobos for the 2007-08 season. Head coach Kathy Kolankiewicz said the recruits will gain experience before the upcoming spring season.

Building off last year's success

The UNM swimming and diving team is looking to build off of last year's performance. The Lobos finished seventh at the Mountain West Conference Championships and recorded a 6-6 dual-meet record in 2006.

UNM to host top-ranked teams

If focus was a concern for the UNM men's soccer team, this weekend's home tournament should provide all the motivation it needs. Starting Friday at the UNM Soccer Complex, the No. 28 Lobos will host one of the most prestigious tournaments in the country, with all four participating teams nationally ranked.
