Column: Saints need tricks up sleeves for Cinderella ending

For longer than Kevin Federline has had a celebrity life, the sports editor and I have been debating who tops the NFL quarterback totem pole. Our two choices always have been Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, both of whom will face off in the AFC Championship game. But who wants to wait until that game happens to find out who is the best? I'll let you in on a little secret - it's Manning.

Defender drafted 10th to MLS

When Andrew Boyens was on the field for the UNM men's soccer team, opposing offenses usually left frustrated. Now that his collegiate career is over, Boyens will be taking his outstanding defense to the professional level.

Lobos unable to bounce back

The UNM men's basketball team had four players finish in double figures Saturday at The Pit. The Lobos had 19 assists, compared to just nine turnovers, and they shot 80 percent from the free-throw line.

Brandi Kimble drove to the basket, got the shot she wanted and watched it roll off the rim. That was in the final seconds as the UNM women's basketball team lost a 49-48 heartbreaker to Utah on Sunday at The Pit.

Two quarterbacks, one game

The UNM football team is in a bowl game, but it's unclear which quarterback will take the reins. Senior Chris Nelson and freshman Donovan Porterie are competing for the starting job against San Jose State in the New Mexico Bowl at University Stadium on Dec. 23.

Lobos snatch first road win

The No. 23-ranked UNM women's basketball team increased its winning streak to five games and earned its first road victory of the season Tuesday against Arizona.

Lobos say rivalry still alive

When a team defeats another in 20 straight games, it can hardly be called a rivalry. Still, when the UNM women's basketball team hosts the New Mexico State Aggies on Saturday, Lobo players are calling it a big deal.
