Moore credits o-line

by Phil Parker Daily Lobo Early in the fourth quarter of a 24-12 Lobo win over Air Force, sophomore running back DonTrell Moore rushed for 14 yards past a slew of Falcon defenders and into UNM's record books. Moore finished the game with 1,285 rushing yards this season - a new school record.

Cross Country The UNM men's and women's cross country teams finished the season Saturday at the NCAA Mountain Region Championships in Ogden, Utah. The Lobos finished 13th in both men's and women's competitions. Senior Sarah Gonzales raced to a career-best finish with a time of 22:11 and led the women with a 30th-place finish.

Lobos vie for MPSF 3-peat

by Riley Bauling Daily Lobo The UNM men's soccer team will enter the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Championship tournament today in Sacramento, Calif. on a quest for a three-peat. The Lobos are two-time MPSF defending champs. With a conference record of 4-2 and an overall record of 7-8-3, the Lobos secured the second seed in the tournament and a first-round bye.

Lobos, AFA fight for bowl berth

by Phil Parker Daily Lobo A win is essential to the bowl hopes of both UNM and the Air Force Falcons, which should make for a solid match-up Saturday. The Falcons (7-3, 3-2) are coming off a win over Army last weekend, but have lost their last two MWC games to Colorado State and Utah.

Moore shines in exhibition

The UNM women's basketball team started the season on a positive note Tuesday night at The Pit with a 67-56 win over the West Coast All-Stars. The exhibition game debuted many new faces, including new assistant coach Mike Terry. Head coach Don Flanagan announced Terry's addition to the team Tuesday.

UNM loses last home game

by Jaclyn Gutierrez Daily Lobo The San Diego State Aztecs shut down the Lobos in three games in UNM's last home match of the season Saturday at Johnson Arena. UNM (4-22) drops to 1-11 in the Mountain West Conference, while SDSU (17-11 improves to 7-5 in the conference.

Divers make splash at home

The UNM women's swimming and diving team raced to a fourth-place finish at the Lobo Fall Invitational this weekend at UNM's Armond H. Seidler Natatorium. The Lobos were led by junior Becca Barras and senior Tracey Berghian, who swept the one-meter and three-meter diving events.

Athletes of the Week

DonTrell Moore Sophomore Football Moore had a record-setting performance in Saturday's thrilling win over the Colorado State Rams. Moore rushed for a career-high 242 yards and scored three times. In his second year as a Lobo, Moore has become the all-time leading scorer for a single season, with 18 touchdowns this year.

For the first time in Rocky Long's coaching career and the first time in Casey Kelly's college football career, the Lobos beat the Colorado State Rams. "We're a football team that everybody keeps telling us we can't do things," Long said. "Somehow we keep doing things that no one expects us to do.

Chance at bowl getting closer

With less than one minute left and overtime looming, a fumbled snap by Colorado State quarterback Bradlee Van Pelt gave the ball back to the Lobos and enabled kicker Wes Zunker to nail a 33-yard field goal as time expired.

Women dominate home tourney

The UNM women's tennis team cleaned house at the UNM Fall Invite Sunday, crowning champions in all six classes of competition. "We pretty much dominated the tournament," assistant coach Roy Ca§ada said. "We lost a few matches here and there, but overall we've shown overwhelmingly that we're the strongest team.

The UNM men's basketball team had its way against Team Ezybonds Saturday night, with a 107-75 win at The Pit. The Lobos controlled the tempo of the game and established a comfortable lead early, as they hit eight of their first 10 3-point attempts.

15-game losing streak comes to joyous end

The Lobo volleyball team went winless for exactly two months. But Thursday night at Johnson Arena UNM ended its 15-game losing streak, beating the UNLV Rebels three games to one 30-25, 26-30, 23-30, 28-30. "I am so happy for our team right now," UNM head coach Kelley Sliva McKee said.

Conference ride ends in loss

After a surge near the end, the UNM women's soccer season came to a screeching halt following a 3-2 loss to the BYU Cougars Thursday afternoon at the MWC Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah. The sixth-seeded Lobos were undoubtedly the underdog going into the game, as the second-seeded Cougars beat the Lobos 5-1 in the regular season.

Lobos' bowl hopes in jeopardy tonight

by Phil Parker Daily Lobo The 5-4 Lobos can lose another game this year without being mathematically eliminated from bowl contention. But head coach Rocky Long said, "I'm living in the real world." Long said Friday night's opponent, Colorado State (5-4, 2-2) can finish the season 7-5 and still be invited to a bowl game - but Long said that is not the case for UNM.

Women's Golf Junior Kailin Downs led UNM to its second fall tournament title Sunday. Downs tied for second place individually at the Landfall Tradition Collegiate. Freshman Ashley Rollins finished the tournament tied for eighth place. Sophomore Christine Fernandez posted a career-best finish, tying for 15th place, junior Shannon Johnson tied for 19th and senior Katrina Leckovic rounded out UNM scoring in a 26th-place tie.

Athletes of the Week

Zach Rupp Senior Football Rupp, a senior defensive end out of Pleasant Grove, Utah, helped show why UNM's run defense is one of the best in the nation. Against UNLV he had 15 tackles, including 5.5 tackles for a total loss of 25 yards. Rupp added 1.5 sacks for a loss of 13 yards, 5 solo tackles and a forced fumble.
