Lobos sweep Canadian foes
October 20Staff Report The Lobo men's basketball team got off to a flying start, going 4-0 in exhibition games played north of the border over fall break. UNM, which lost 17 straight road games last season, swept its Canadian foes, taking four exhibition games over EA Sports Vancouver All Stars, Simon Fraser, the University of Calgary and Trinity Western University.
Rebels kill Lobo hopes for new start
Audra Meiklejohn | October 20The UNM men's soccer team lost its conference opener to cellar-dwellers UNLV 0-2 Saturday night at the UNM Soccer Complex. It was the fourth consecutive loss for the Lobos. After losing to six nationally ranked teams, UNM was looking forward to a fresh start of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference.

October 20Gabriel Fulbright Sophomore Football Fulbright led the defense in the Lobo's 30-7 victory over the San Diego State Aztecs Saturday. Fulbright had three interceptions, and the defense forced six SDSU turnovers. Anna Reines Senior Volleyball Reines led all players with 17 kills in Friday's match against the University of Wyoming.
Turnovers costly for Aztecs as Lobos roll
October 20Staff Report Two big factors led to the Lobos' 30-7 win at San Diego State on Saturday: Aztec turnovers and DonTrell Moore. Moore scored two touchdowns from two and three yards out. In all, he ran for 89 yards on 15 carries. Three of the Aztec's turnovers accounted for 17 Lobo points.
Preseason award honors Shetters
Audra Meiklejohn | October 13Junior Jenny Shetters has never played a basketball game in a UNM jersey, but she was one of only two Lobos recognized by the Mountain West Conference in last weeks' preseason picks. Shetters was chosen by MWC coaches and media as the preseason conference Newcomer of the Year.
Lobo men head to the Great White North
Michael Beniash | October 13The UNM men's basketball team will head north of the border to Vancouver, Canada to compete in a three-day series of exhibition games over fall break. Nestled in the southwest corner of British Columbia, Vancouver is a long way from home for the youth-powered Lobos.

October 13Divan Coetzee Senior Tennis Coetzee upset the No. 2 player in college tennis, Bo Hodge from the University of Georgia, Friday 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 in the Icy Hot/ITA All American Championship. Coetzee was named to the All-MWC singles team in the spring and was invited to play in the 2003 NCAA Men's Tennis Championships in Atlanta, Ga.
Not quite a fiesta
October 13Staff Report The UNM men's tennis team failed to defend the singles and doubles title at the Balloon Fiesta Invitational this weekend at Lobo Tennis Club. The College of Santa Fe's Gerald Bremond, seeded No. 1, won the main flight singles competition with a 6-2, 6-4 win over NMSU's Danilo Zivanovic.
Player works to beat injury
Michael Beniash | October 10If there ever was perfect timing to sustain a serious injury, Mark Walters picked it. During individual off-season workouts in late May, the UNM freshman suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. The injury came two months after the 2002-03 regular season and doctors projected six months would be needed for a full recovery.
Men's team looks to defend titles
October 10Staff Report The UNM men's tennis team will play for keeps at its annual Balloon Fiesta Invitational this weekend at the Lobo Tennis Club. Audra Meiklejohn | October 6Senior Casey Kelly threw for 230 yards and sophomore DonTrell Moore rushed for 132 yards on 30 carries to lead the Lobos to a 34-7 win over the Utah State Aggies Saturday at University Stadium. The Lobos were pleasantly surprised by the ease of the win.

October 6Sean Flaherty Senior Cross Country Flaherty led the Lobo men to a top finish in this weekend's meet at San Diego. He set a personal record Saturday, finishing second in the 8K in 26:31. Flaherty's previous best was a 13th place finish last year. Kristen Winters Junior Soccer Winters allowed the Saint Mary's Gaels to score only one goal out of 24 shots on Sunday afternoon in Moraga, Calif.
Victory gives Lobos boost

Utes walk away with win
October 6by Tony Niklinski Daily Lobo Lobo fans packed the gym at Johnson Center Friday on "Jam Johnson" night as 1,339 supporters came to see the volleyball team play the Utah Utes. Despite the fans' support, the UNM volleyball team could not snap its 10 game losing streak, dropping three straight games to the visiting Utes 30-19, 30-21, 30-12.
