Homecoming festivities will come to a close tomorrow night at University Stadium and Lobo Lucy, Lobo Louie, the UNM spirit squad and the spirit marching band have been gearing up for the occasion. The UNM volleyball team lost its ninth straight game last night, being swept at Johnson Arena by BYU 30-18, 30-28, 30-25. "When it comes right down to it, you have to be able to pass under pressure and you have to be able to side out," head coach Kelly Sliva McKee said.

Lobos dominate McGuire

The UNM women's golf team led wire to wire en route to its third straight Dick McGuire Invitational title Thursday through Saturday - and set a few records along the way. Rounds of 295-281-295-871 gave the Lobos a convincing 16-stroke victory over second-place Oklahoma State University at the 6,069-yard, par 73 UNM Championship Course.

Kailin Downs Junior Golf Downs earned the first win of her college career this weekend at the Branch Law Firm/ Dick McGuire Invitational. Downs finished 7 under at the par 73 course. She led the Lobos to a first-place team finish with scores of 70-68-74-212.

O-line ranked 10th in nation

UNM football possesses one of the biggest and most talented offensive lines in the nation. The starting five offensive linemen, tabbed "The Hitmen," by teammates are all returning lettermen from a unit that lead UNM to a spot in last year's Las Vegas Bowl.

Back on track

A record crowd of 44,075 was on hand to watch UNM rally from a seven-point halftime deficit against NMSU Saturday at University Stadium. Turnovers were key in the 24-17 Lobo win. The Lobos were down 14-7 to start the third quarter, but it didn't take long for UNM to fight back.

Men's Soccer The men's soccer team traveled to Las Vegas, Nev. this weekend to take part in the UNLV/Fila Classic. Tournament play started on Friday, at 5 p.m. with the Lobos playing against the Gonzaga Bulldogs at the Peter Johann Memorial Field. The battle ended with a 1-1 tie.

McKamey takes the reins

Redshirt freshman Kole McKamey stepped into a leadership role and directed the Lobos in Saturday's 24-17 win over NMSU. Senior starter Casey Kelly was not getting the job done for the Lobos. Kelly started off on the wrong foot, throwing his first interception on the third drive of the game.

Team to start season in Vegas

The UNM women's tennis team will open its season in Las Vegas, Nev., at the annual UNLV Women's Tennis Fall Invitational this weekend. Head coach Kathy Kolankiewicz said the invitational will be especially competitive because all six of the participating teams were nationally ranked last year.

The battle of I-25 officially kicked off last weekend, when the UNM men's tennis team traveled south to take part in the New Mexico State Invitational in Las Cruces. Playing most impressively was senior standout Divan Coetzee.

Women vie for third straight

No team has ever won the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational three straight times, but that's exactly what the UNM women's golf team will be trying to do this weekend. A home-course advantage will be one factor weighing heavily in the Lobos' favor - the tournament, now in its 25th year, will be played at the UNM Championship Course Thursday through Sunday.

Volleyball team shows improvement

The Lobo volleyball team lost three matches this weekend to take fourth place at the Albuquerque Marriott Lobo Tournament in Johnson Arena. Even though UNM was swept by Ohio, Sacramento State and Kentucky, head coach Kelly Sliva McKee said the home team played better in this tournament than they did at the Comcast Lobo Invitational, where the Lobos were undefeated.

The UNM men's soccer team defeated the University of California-Irvine Friday night and played to a 2-2 draw in Sunday's match against Southwest Missouri State at the Crescent Financial Solutions Invitational at the UNM Soccer Complex.

Jeff Rowland Sophomore Soccer Rowland was named Offensive Most Valuable Player of the Crescent Financial Solutions Invitational this weekend against UC-Irvine and Southwest Missouri State. Rowland scored two of the Lobos' five goals this weekend, scoring a goal in each match.
