Douglas continues hot shooting as Lobos fall

Staff Report The UNM men's basketball team dropped to last place in the Mountain West Conference after a 80-64 loss to Brigham Young University on Saturday. The loss marked the Lobos 13th consecutive road loss dating back to last year. It is the longest such streak since they dropped 14 in a row during the 1981-82 season.

Golf team cultivates talent

On the heels of a successful fall campaign, during which the UNM men's golf team never finished outside the top five in tournament play, the Lobos look to knock the rust off their sticks and pick up right where they left off. The Lobos, ranked No. 15 in the Golfweek/ Sagarin Performance Index, will travel to Tucson, Ariz.

Men's basketball hits road for Utah

This year should be no different, as the Lobos travel to play Brigham Young University and University of Utah this weekend in what should be their toughest road swing of the Mountain West Conference schedule.

Lobo women come back with win over San Diego

The UNM women's basketball team came home Thursday night and took out all of its frustrations on San Diego State University in defeating the Aztecs 75-42. Head coach Don Flanagan stressed getting a win. "From now on for us, there are no unimportant games," he said.

Ice Wolves seek opportunity to shine

The UNM Ice Wolves (2-7-1) open the second half of the 2002-03 season this weekend at the Outpost Ice Arena against the Colorado University Buffaloes (12-5-2). The young club is striving to make a name for itself, building on the success and strength of 2002.

Lobos fail to seize victory

The UNM men's basketball team got off to a fast start on Monday but finally ran out of gas in a 75-66 loss to the University Nevada-Las Vegas. Senior guard Ruben Douglas was on fire in the first half scoring 25 points including six of seven from beyond the arc.

by Audra Meiklejohn Daily Lobo The Lobo women have experienced an unfamiliar feeling twice in the past week -- losing. UNM comes home winless, losing at Colorado State and Wyoming. Thursday in Fort Collins, Colo., the Lobos were out-rebounded and outshot.

Swim team ambushes NMSU

by Audra Meiklejohn Daily Lobo The Lobo swimming and diving team crushed in-state rival New Mexico State University 146-92 Saturday, in its last home meet this season at Seidler Natatorium. UNM took home first place honors in 10 events. Sophomore Aimee Dunavant set a new UNM record in the 100-meter butterfly, finishing in 58.

by Michael Beniash Daily Lobo Sixteen games into the season and three games into the conference schedule, the Lobo men's basketball team has finally found an identity. The men play intense defense mixed with a trio of capable scoring threats. This newfound identity equals a new sense of confidence and they are eagerly looking to prove their worth in a very talented conference.

Fans' positive energy in Pit aids Lobo men

The Pit is back. At least for one night, the stadium that has brought fear into the hearts of so many opposing teams over the years proved that it is still a force to be reckoned with. From the opening tip off of Saturday's game featuring the Lobos and San Diego State University, the fans played an intricate role in propelling UNM to its first conference victory of the season.

Athletes of the Week

Men's basketball player Javin Tindall and swimmer Aimee Dunavant are this week's New Mexico Daily Lobo Athletes of the Week. Tindall set a career-high with four 3-pointers in Wednesday's 107-49 blowout of Western New Mexico University. On Saturday, the junior guard topped that mark hitting five 3-pointers in six attempts against San Diego State University.

Lobo upset in Pit boosts team's spirit

by Michael Beniash Daily Lobo With their backs against the ropes and lingering thoughts of a 0-3 conference start, the UNM men's basketball team defied the odds and upset San Diego State University in a 66-62 thriller at The Pit. Led by a stingy defensive effort from the entire team, timely shooting by junior guard Javin Tindall and a little luck in their corner, the Lobos outlasted the hot shooting of the Aztecs.

Dating back to last year, UNM has dropped 12 straight road games, including its first two conference road games this season. Tennis, track teams head out this weekend

Staff Report Men's Tennis The UNM men's tennis team takes its 59th national ranking to the Northwest this weekend to battle 20th-ranked University of Washington and 73rd-ranked University of Oregon. The Lobos have yet to lose a point in the spring season with 7-0 victories over Northern Arizona University and the University of San Francisco coming last weekend.

Lobo women fall down to CSU

Staff Report The University of New Mexico women's basketball team was beaten by a score of 66-53 by Colorado State University Thursday night. CSU was able to control the second half after the Lobos had built a 29-26 lead at halftime. With the Rams leading 45-44 in the second half, sophomore guard Mandi Moore had a chance to tie the game with a free throw.

Swim team to face NMSU

by Audra Meiklejohn Daily Lobo The UNM swim team welcomes New Mexico State University to the Seidler Natatorium in the Lobos' final home meet of the season Saturday. UNM is currently ranked fourth in the Mountain West Conference (4-3), closely following Utah, Colorado State and UNLV.

Lobo men score victory against Western

It may not have been the best opponent the Lobos have faced, but Wednesday night's 107-49 thrashing of Western New Mexico was still enjoyable for any UNM fan. The Lobos used a stingy defense that held the Mustangs to just 30 percent shooting from the floor and a well-rounded offensive effort in the victory.

Moore provides spark for Lobo women

by Audra Meiklejohn Daily Lobo Sophomore Mandi Moore has not ceased to amaze basketball fans in her role as UNM's starting point guard. Moore took the Mountain West Conference by storm and was named MWC Newcomer of the Year last season. She was also named to the All-Conference Third Team, an honor that usually takes years to earn.
