This isn't your grandmother's cookbook, but it might be your great-great-grandmother's cookbook. One of the Center for Southwest Research's recent acquisitions is "El Libro de Cocina" by French chef Jules GouffÇ. It is a Mexican edition of a classic Spanish cookbook similar to the modern "The Joy of Cooking," said Mike Kelly, the center's director.
Editor, I find it interesting that Richard Wood, director of the religious studies program, in a recent guest column, basically answered my unpublished letter to the Daily Lobo about the new chairperson endowed by the Archdiocese of Santa Fe. What an amazing coincidence.
Despite the sweltering temperatures, summer is not a hot season for businesses in the UNM area. The plunge in business can be distressing, said Yashoda Naidoo, the owner of Annapurna Ayurvedic Cuisine and Chai House at 2201 Silver Ave. S.E.
UNM Athletic Director Paul Krebs didn't have to travel far to find his new baseball coach. Ray Birmingham, who spent 18 seasons as the head coach at New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, replaces Rich Alday, who led the Lobos for 18 seasons.
Sometimes it takes one fierce queen to make history. Sometimes it takes a couple thousand. In the early morning hours of June 28, 1969, a dehumanizing routine raid on a Greenwich Village gay bar became the catalyst for the empowerment and radicalization of the American gay rights movement.
A new program is in the works that lets students create superheroes, design alien worlds and look inside the human body without cutting it open. And you don't have to be a computer science major to enroll. UNM's film and digital media program will offer bachelor's and master's degrees with concentrations in engineering, fine arts, business and arts and sciences.
Students fed up with UNM's parking situation have another option starting in the fall, a state representative said. ABQ Ride will offer free bus service anywhere in the city for UNM students beginning Aug. 20. "At that time, all UNM students will have access to any bus route at any time of the day," said Rep.
Editor, June is recognized as a month of pride for those who identify themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. Putting any and all prejudgments aside, focusing on comprehensive sex education should be an integral part of the celebrations. When young adults do not receive proper sex education, including views on alternative sexual identities, harmful stigmas are allowed to continue to the detriment of society.
If you haven't watched Major League Baseball all season, start now. Dust off your ball caps, pull out your jerseys and get ready for the best players in the country to take the field. Editor, UNM President David Schmidly recently appointed a committee to review the policies and procedures of animal research conducted at the University. This is all well and good, since there have been reported allegations of animal abuse. It is certainly necessary to get to the truth and correct any wrongdoing that may exist.
Eight years ago, Bill Clinton was president, "Family Guy" was funny and listening to Limp Bizkit was considered socially acceptable. Obviously, a lot has changed. And no one knows better than Pharoahe Monch, who released his last album in 1999.
Editor, UNM has a history of ignoring students with disabilities and their needs. Students with disabilities are routinely discriminated against at UNM, and in some cases in the classroom. In a psychology class at UNM in Dane Smith Hall, I had my chair - a chair placed by Accessibility Services in the classroom for my use, a chair with a large sign on it explaining that it was the property of Accessibility Services, a chair I was sitting on - taken by the TA in the class, and I was forced to leave the classroom.
A federal judge in New Mexico denied a request to subpoena UNM for the personal information of Internet users suspected of music piracy. The UNM regents recently approved an endowed chairperson in Roman Catholic Studies. The person hired for this position will be a professor within the UNM Religious Studies program. In response, Ken Carpenter wrote in the June 18 Daily Lobo with serious concerns about the church influence at UNM.

Editor, Max Ashbrook Fitzpatrick's call for continued animal suffering at UNM "because it serves as a reminder that our government tortures humans" is as perverse as it is nonsensical. To his credit, Fitzpatrick does correctly parallel the physical and mental wartime trauma suffered by humans with the pains endured by mice at UNM's laboratories.
In 1998, Kevin Cole, of Carlsbad, New Mexico set a new world record for the farthest spaghetti nasal ejection, sending 7 1/2 inches of noodle rocketing from his nose in a single blow.
