Editor,
The recent trend of everyone having one of the new, small, slim cell phones leads me to believe there must be many of the older types put away in closets or drawers that are no longer being used. There is a critical need for all cell phones.
Alltel has agreed to refurbish these phones at their own expense and furnish them to victims of domestic violence for use in an emergency. They are programmed to dial either 911 or their local shelter. You can recycle something you no longer use and perhaps help save the life of a woman or child.
Please donate your old phones along with all the chargers and other accessories you may have. You can take them to an Alltel store or e-mail me (cjmeek@salud.unm.edu) and I will take them for you.
As a volunteer for a local shelter, I know a phone can make all the difference in an emergency situation.
