Editor,
Everyone has noticed the red writing on the concrete all around campus that reads, “I was raped here.” I suppose this is done by a rape awareness organization. However, is this the manner to get your message across?
Many organizations like to do these sort of awareness campaigns: posters, ribbons and what not. However, all they do is let people who are otherwise apathetic think they’re doing something worthy. It is hard to see these things as more than just empty symbolic gestures.
I suggest participating in real activism that gets results: contributing to a fund of some sort, not just pretending to show some sympathy for these people.
