The UNM men’s soccer team is holding a free youth skills clinic on Aug. 19 at Winrock Center.

Head coach Klaus Weber, his staff and players will be teaching basic soccer skills such as ball control and playing offense and defense.

The clinic is limited to children ages four to 13 and participants will be allowed on a first come, first serve basis due to limited space.

Registration starts at 1 p.m. and the clinic will run from 1:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.

The clinic will take place in the old Montgomery Ward store at the southeast corner of the mall.

The coaches and players will be available for autographs after the clinic.

The UNM men’s and women’s track and field teams placed 31 athletes on the Mountain West Conference academic all-conference team for the spring 2001 season.

The 31 athletes helped the Lobos earn the third-highest cumulative GPA in the conference.

The women’s team had 18 athletes on the squad, including four repeat academic all-conference selections.

The men’s team finished with 13 athletes selected, including one repeat selection.

To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution, maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to the team.

The women selected were: Haley Bennet, 3.67; Angelica Bernaert, 3.07; Andrea Brigman, 4.00; Lisa Coleman, 3.77; Felicia DeVargas, 3.44; Sarah Gonzales, 3.70; Bobbi Hall, 3.45; Erin Johnson, 3.21; Crystal Lomax, 3.93; Andrea Montoya, 3.32; Jackie Morgan, 3.78; Hannah Radzinski, 3.19; Keren Sari, 3.69; and Kisha Smith, 3.83.

The four repeat all-conference selections were Kim Baca, 3.46; Monique Harris,3.14; Katherine Callahan, 4.00; and Monica Christofferson, 3.28.

The men selected were: Jason Barkermeyer, 3.61; Brian Barrett, 3.29; Matt Bishop, 3.95; Craig Keish, 3.25; Jimmy Minner, 3.13; Matt Mizell, 3.03; Chris Orell, 3.22; Ben Ortega, 3.34; Dallas Smith, 3.12; Kyle Soper, 3.36; Daniel Taradash, 3.16; and Voight Thornton, 3.07.

The repeat selection was Travis Clark, 3.03.
