LETTER: Author of letter against retaliation is unpatriotic

Editor,

Mr. Dan Ricker gave a number of reasons why he was sad in Monday's Daily Lobo. As I reflected on his reasons, I thought of another reason why he might want to be sad.

He's sad that his "country is busy creating orphans, widows and homeless people (who) ... have no idea what the Pentagon or World Trade Center were until a few weeks ago."

He might be even sadder if he were to realize that a far greater number of innocent Americans were made orphans and widows on Sept. 11.

And I suspect that most of them had no idea about Kabul, the Taliban or Osama bin Laden either. He's sad that he's considered unpatriotic, so I guess he thinks he is patriotic.

But if supporting his country does not include supporting its men and women who are working very hard to make sure that at Sept. 11 does not occur again to him in his lifetime, I'm afraid he's going to have to continue to be sad.

Add me to the list of those who think he's unpatriotic.

At the end of his letter, Mr. Ricker claims he is not against war. Given his previous paragraphs lamenting the horrors of war, I wonder what his conception of a war he's not against is - a shoving match? While I would like to make Mr. Ricker feel sadder, I somehow feel that he has already reached his limit of sadness.
