Baseball: Texans sweep the Lobos for a second straight year

After their first loss of the season on the road against the New Mexico State University Aggies, the University of New Mexico baseball team returned to Santa Ana Star field and got swept in a four-game series against the Tarleton State Texans for a second year in a row. In game one, the Texans gambled with a double steal to try and bring home a run while Texans left fielder Kendyl Johnson was at the plate. It failed and the Lobos promptly responded with a 5- run inning. The Lobos used that momentum and built an 11-3 lead; however,Tarleton State went on to score 10 unanswered runs. Including two in the ninth inning that proved to be the dagger in the 13-11 game one loss.

Men’s Basketball: Rams spoil senior night at The Pit

The University of New Mexico men’s basketball team hosted their final game at The Pit for the 2026 season and lost 82-74 to the Colorado State University Rams.  This was also the final game at The Pit for seniors Milos Vicentic, Chris Howell, Tomislav Buljan, Tajavis Miller, Deyton Albury and Luke Haupt, but it won't be their final game this year wearing silver and cherry. The game began with Colorado State forward Carey Booth getting the Rams on the board first. The Rams built an early lead, but the Lobos answered and the game became a back and forth affair early. Miller sent The Pit into a frenzy with a three-pointer that tied the game at 10.

Baseball: Lobos sweep St Thomas and stay undefeated

The University of New Mexico baseball team completed a sweep against the University of St. Thomas, advancing to 12-0 on the season. The Lobos are one of three undefeated teams left in college baseball. Game one of the series saw the Lobos slug their way to an 11-6 win. They found themselves down 2 runs in the second inning, but the St. Thomas defense cracked the door open with 3 errors and the Lobos kicked that door down with a 6-run explosion. They rode that 6-run second to the series-opening victory as they tacked on more and never looked back.  “We need to keep stacking up days like this and go out there like Coach Brown told us and keep competing,” Lobo Damian Garcia said.

Baseball: Lobos keeps Northern Colorado Bears in hibernation

The University of New Mexico baseball team kept the good times rolling as it swept the University of Northern Colorado Bears and moved to 8-0, the team's best start since the 1973 season. On Friday, Feb. 20, it appeared that the Lobos simply picked up where they left off the previous week against the Fordham Rams. The Lobos dominated game one of the series against the Bears with a 16-5 victory that was called after 7 innings, as per the NCAA’s run rule.  That was a productive day all around for the Lobo batters who had 11 walks to just 3 strikeouts to complement the 7 extra-base hits that included 4 home runs in that ball game.

Lobo baseball sweeps Fordham Rams in season opener

Like the weather at the Santa Ana Star Field during the game, The University of New Mexico baseball team opened its first week of the new season with a turbulent but eventual sweep of the Fordham University Rams. Held on Friday, Feb. 13, game one of the series was a back and forth affair that started very promisingly for UNM, as Lobo pitcher Cristian Mogen began his season by striking out Fordham designated hitter Ernie Little and went on to retire his first six batters. Meanwhile, on the other side of the ball, Lobo designated hitter Aidan Kuni grounded into a fielder’s choice and drove in the first run of the season to give them an early lead.

Women’s Basketball: Spartan spears narrowly avoid the Lobo’s hearts

The Lobos women’s basketball team came back to The Pit looking to get back in the win column after their dismantling at the hands of Boise State over the weekend. The University of New Mexico did just that with a 66-61 win over the San Jose State University Spartans on Wednesday, Feb. 11. This game had all the makings of a trap game as San Jose State entered this one with just three wins on the season and kept it close with the Lobos from start to finish, but the Lobos held on and won a close one.

Lobos bounce back with win over Fresno State Bulldogs

After dropping their previous game in San Diego State, the University of New Mexico Lobos men’s basketball team returned home to face the California State University, Fresno Bulldogs and get back in the win column with an 83-74 victory in front of the fans.  The Lobos got on the board first when guard Jake Hall hit a three, and despite the Bulldogs eventually taking a one-point lead, this sparked an early 14-0 run that the Lobos never looked back from.  The Pit exploded when guard Luke Haupt dunked late in the first half, which felt like the exclamation on a first half that had the Lobos looking truly dominant.

OPINION: Bobbleheads of the week

When there’s a winner there’s a loser. Sometimes a player can do everything in their power to win a game and still lose. Just as often, a player’s performance can cost their team the game. These players are favorably called bobbleheads. Minnesota Vikings: quarterback Max Brosmer After the recent poor performances from J.J. McCarthy and his recent concussion, it was going to take a lot for fans in Minnesota to be excited for McCarthy to return. Unfortunately, that resulted in giving undrafted rookie Max Brosmer his first NFL start.
