Lobos steamroll UTEP 98-45

Women's team set several school records in easy win

The UNM women's basketball team spent its Thanksgiving Day weekend feasting on an overmatched University of Texas El Paso team on the road Friday, winning 98-45.

The Lobos (3-1) set several school records with the easy win. UNM had the most assists in a game with 25 breaking the previous high of 22, the most field goals made in a game with 34 breaking the previous high of 27 and it tied the modern record of most rebounds in a game with 47. The Lobos also set a record by scoring 52 points in one half when they led UTEP 52-13 at halftime.

Every player for UNM played and 10 of the 11 players scored. Four Lobos scored in double figures. Junior forward Chelsea Grear scored a career-high 23 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Junior center Jordan Adams chipped in with 12 points and five blocks, sophomore guard Lauren McLeod contributed 13 points and freshman point guard Mandi Moore added 10 points on four-of-six shooting.

The Lobos dominated the backboards, outrebounding the Miners 47-24. UNM had a strong game shooting the ball, making 58 percent of its attempts compared to the Miners 29 percent.

The Lobos next home game is Tuesday against the University of Arizona at 7 p.m. in The Pit.
