Construction to impact parking

While classes won't be in session, holiday parking regulations and ongoing construction will impact those working on or visiting campus.

Shuttles will operate on their regular schedules and all parking regulations will be in effect during finals week. Commuters should budget extra time to park. During the break, Dec. 17-21 and Jan. 2-4 and 7-11, shuttle service and parking enforcement will end at 6 p.m. All parking regulations will be in effect between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on these days. Parking permits are not required on weekends but students are cautioned to avoid restricted areas such as reserved, official and service vehicle, handicapped spaces and red and yellow curbs.

The following areas will undergo construction during winter break:

The M-Lot, near Family Practice, will be repaved in sections, as well as the Biology Annex /Chemistry Lot. The hospital will remain open even when the University is closed.

Room 163 of the Anthropology building will be remodeled.

Carlisle Gym will be re-stuccoed.

The paving of trench lines may cause some traffic delays on the Redondo loop and water may temporarily be turned off.

Trenching and pipe work for the Student Union Building may begin Dec. 17. Areas near the SUB and Smith Plaza may be drastically torn up and should be avoided. The area should be patched up by Jan. 14.

The Utility Project Team will complete lighting upgrades for energy conservation on three to four buildings and will make chilled water modifications on two buildings. The project to bore a tunnel under Lomas Boulevard should begin during the break and should not interfere with normal campus activities.

Upon returning, students should expect to see another trenching project from Las Lomas to the SUB. The trench will be 15 feet deep and wide, with another 15 feet on each side for a construction fence and staging area.

The Law School phase one will be nearing completion in January. Phase two work will begin soon after, and parking will be restored several months into that stage.

The Child Care Center's first building will be finished and staff and children will move into the new building around Jan. 7th. The second building should be completed in July with a grand opening at the end of July or in early August.

Crews will begin construction on the new Ambulatory Surgery and Imaging Center across from the UNM Child Care Center after demolishing a building and clearing the site.
