The U.S. State Department is offering workshops nationally, including one at UNM this week, to assist candidates preparing for the oral portion of the Foreign Service Exam, which is required for those who want to work for the department.

Diplomat-in-Residence Richele Keller will conduct the workshop Friday from 9-11 a.m. in the Student Services Center, Room 220. For more information, contact Keller at richelek@unm.edu or visit the department's Web site, www.state.gov.

UNM men's basketball coach Fran Fraschilla will join 43 other torchbearers from throughout New Mexico who will carry the Olympic flame during its Albuquerque stop Saturday.

The Salt Lake 2002 Olympic Torch Relay will arrive at the Balloon Fiesta Park at about 3:35 p.m. Torchbearers will carry the flame through the streets of Albuquerque. A community celebration including entertainment and local vendors will be held at Civic Plaza at 5:30 p.m.

The torch route begins at 4:15 p.m. and will take the following path:

Montgomery Boulevard and Monroe Street

East on Montgomery Boulevard to San Mateo Boulevard

San Mateo Boulevard south to Menaul Boulevard

Menaul Boulevard east to Pennsylvania Street

Pennsylvania Street south to Lomas Boulevard

Lomas Boulevard west to San Pedro Drive

San Pedro Drive south to Central Avenue

Central Avenue west to University Boulevard

University Boulevard north to Lomas Boulevard

Lomas Boulevard west to 6th Street

6th Street south to Tijeras Avenue

Tijeras Avenue east to 4th Street and on to Civic Plaza.

During the portion of the torch run that passes the University, ASUNM Student Special Events and 103.3 the Zone, KTZO-FM, will offer giveaways, live music and 50-cent bottles of Coke outside the UNM Bookstore.

The Albuquerque branch of the American Association of University Women is sponsoring a panel discussion by state legislators Sen. Dede Feldman, D-Albuquerque; Rep. Danice Picraux, D-Albuquerque; Rep. Mimi Stewart, D-Albuquerque; and Sen. Sue Wilson Beffort, R-Albuquerque. They will address campaign finance, pay equity and issues for the 2002 Legislative session. The event is at 10 a.m. Saturday in the UNM Continuing Education Center, 1534 University Blvd.
