Carrasco a great example of ‘drive-by’ journalism

Editor,

Michael Carrasco’s March 26 version of what I supposedly said at my March 24 UNM talk is a perfect example of the “drive-by” journalism so prevalent in the media today. He was not in attendance.

He writes that, “Personal attacks are of course a rather poor method of argumentation and I will not employ them.” He then goes right on to attribute “paranoia” and “pyschological pathlogy” to me. Pretty impressive clinical observations for someone who has never met me.

Pulitzer prize winner Ben Bagdikian in his ground-breaking book, “The Media Monopoly,” is the source of the quote about the corporate media constituting a “private ministry of information.” Carrasco’s screed is so full of errors, false assumptions and fabrications that it is breathtaking. I never said that the government is fascist nor did I describe NPR as such. Those comments were not in Andrew Webb’s March 25 report on my presentation.

They are inventions of Mr. Carrasco. He then patronizingly advises me to “Enter into the arena of ideas and not just emotions.” Clearly, he has difficulty in practicing what he preaches. To find out more about who I am and what I do, tune in for my nationally syndicated Alternative Radio on KUNM, Saturday evenings from 6-7 p.m. or visit www.alternativeradio.org.
